Changing home or just minds?

Changing home or just minds?

The past 8 days have been interesting. Last Thursday after choir I was whining to my father about how I didn’t really want to invest in a garage if I was going to move soon, and we didn’t have the money to move and, and, and. . . the whining continued. It occurred to me while driving home that such whining was really getting me nowhere. Melissa talked it over and decided that if what we wanted was to move into town, then that’s what we should make an effort to do.
On Friday we started looking at listings, on Sunday we went to some open houses. There we met Sarah Blair who is an agent with Help U Sell and is a friend from our days at MCC. That evening we decided to take a closer look at a few listings, but figured we would be so picky there was little chance we would find anything. Amazingly, we found something very similar to what we wanted. We decided to get more advice and pursue financing. We were going to move to Lookout Drive. It was very exciting to say the least.
On Wednesday I planned to spend most of the day talking to bankers. My parents were going to drive up that evening to see the house and it looked like things were going well. I was preparing to walk out the door when Melissa began to express some concerns about timing and money. We then proceeded to have a difficult but productive conversation about what the right thing to do is right now. It became pretty clear that while we wanted to move into town, the holiday season was not the time to do it, and the $200 a month could be used better in other ways.
The last couple of days we have been reflecting on this decision. I still think that house would have worked great for our family, but it is clear that we need to spend a little longer thinking things through and preparing ourselves, and our finances, for such an action. At this point that means we will watch the housing market to see what things are selling for in the various neighborhoods that we like. We will also attempt to get a better grip on how much we are spending and what we can give up.
Hopefully we will know what we want a little later.
